ELE 4332 - Mtd/Assess Tch Lang Art/Soc St
This course is designed to prepare the prospective elementary teacher to apply various approaches to teaching language arts in grades K-6. A variety of classroom experiences will be utilized to stimulate and involve the student in the teaching process. Special attention is given to oral and written communication, the whole language approach, and to the selection, preparation and organization of various teaching materials into lesson plans and teaching units. The social studies area focuses on knowledge and understanding of the social studies concepts, generalizations and experiences developmentally appropriate for elementary school children. Opportunities are provided for planning of integrated cross-curricular activities using citizenship transmission, social science inquiry and reflective inquiry to aid in the acquisition and maintenance of social studies skills, concepts and attitudes. Students visit schools and work in the classroom with teachers and children. Prerequisite: ELE 3311, ELE 3304 and admission to Teacher Education Program. Grade of C or better.
