ESL 6303 - Research Methods in Linquistics
The course will introduce teacher candidates to a variety of present-day research methods in linguistics--e.g., formal, computational, quantitative, and qualitative. Teacher candidates will by guided, both at the theoretical and the practical levels, in their discussions of specific topics involving usage of corpora, of the questionnaire design, of computer-assisted content analysis, or of interview methods, observations, linguistics fieldwork, as well as statistical analysis. The knowledge gained during the course will enable teacher candidates to conduct their own research projects based on recording, transcribing, coding and analyzing linguistic data.
